Bate Collection of Musical Instruments

The Bate Collection celebrates the history and development of musical instruments of the Western Classical tradition.  It  has over 2000 instruments  with more than a thousand on display. They  range  from a 13th century deer-bone whistle, bequeathed in 2010, through the renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic and up to modern times. The collection also contains examples from all of the most important makers.

Opening Weekday afternoons 2.00 – 5.00 (apart from block leave at Easter and Christmas)
Saturday mornings 10.00 – 12.00 during the University term.
